Doris Anderson - Trailblazer
She was a trailblazer who made a difference in the collective lives of Canadian women. Although she started life in a home for unwanted babies, she grew up to become one of the country's most powerful advocates for women's rights.
Because of women such as Anderson, a gender equality clause was enshrined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Section 28 of the Charter was born from the tenacity of an ad hoc conference held on Valentine's Day weekend in 1981.

"When Kinsey came out and reported only one woman in four enjoyed sex, I thought, 'That's awful.' Then there were all these books to help women understand sex. It would have been better to educate the men." - Doris Anderson, in Herizons magazine, Winter 2006
