ONTARIO FEDERATION OF LABOUR IWD-MARCH 8, 2007

The Ontario Federation of Labour will be launching A Century of Women and Work project on March 5, 2007. The history of women in the workforce - the victories and the setbacks have been chronicled and depicted and the exhibit will be available to communities across Ontario for the rest of the year. The history tells us that, "More than 100 years after women's struggle for economic security and independence began, female wage rates are still much lower than men's and we continue to be segregated into many of the same job ghettos that existed at the beginning of the century.

"Women's equality struggles have produced nothing less than a social revolution, but economic progress has been thwarted by federal and provincial governments who, in good times or bad, have always told women to wait."
